The preparation

You don't just show up for it. You train for it.

The transformation happens in the months before and after the trail. We start building the strength and the habits that carry you through the workouts and the hike up Quail Mountain before the trip. Quarterly follow up calls after the trip keep you on track through 2027.

Three pillars · November, December, January

Strength

Progressive strength work builds the legs, hips, and core that carry you through the daily workouts and 1,900 feet of climbing on Quail Mountain.

Aerobic cardio

Zone 2 sessions build the aerobic engine so you can go all day. Two cardio sessions a week, scaling as the trip gets closer.

Discipline

You'll maintain a consistent workout routine and follow through with your personal and career commitments in 2027.

Coaches in your corner.

Six group coaching calls ahead of the trip. We work through everything that stands between you and the trailhead, one topic at a time.

We believe that when we have a challenge to work towards, we level up in every area of life.

Craig has finished Ironmans, marathons, and ultramarathons, and coached clients up Kilimanjaro and across Lake Ontario. Tommy spent 15 years on Colorado's tallest peaks, races Spartan every summer, and has guided men on multi-night trips in the backcountry.

We're pumped to be out there with you.

Frequently asked questions.

Three months is enough to build real strength and stamina for Quail Mountain and the daily workouts without turning this into a second job. It is also enough time to build the habits that carry past the hike, the discipline of showing up and the conditioning to think clearly under physical strain. You will be ready well before we land in Joshua Tree in February 2027.

Training will typically require about 3 to 5 hours per week, less in the early stages and more as we get closer to the hike, depending on the phase of the program. This includes a mix of strength training, endurance workouts, and active recovery sessions to gradually build your fitness and endurance. The most important session each week will be your long hike, scheduled for weekends.

Fit enough to hike and enjoy it, not fit enough for an endurance event. This is intentionally different from the Grand Canyon trip. Our big hike is Quail Mountain, 10 miles round trip with 1,900 feet of elevation gain. It is a real push, and three months of training gets you there.

HIIT style, 45 minute bodyweight and aerobic sessions led by Tommy or Craig. These are not competitions and no one is yelling in your face. We set the bar, you decide how hard you push.

These are not seminars or share circles or surface level chit-chat. Think unscripted, direct conversations that move you from where you are now to where you are headed. By the time you fly home, you will know exactly where to spend your time in 2027: the goals, the habits, the decisions you are making.

Since we are travelling as a group, we will be staying together at an Airbnb in Joshua Tree. It is a beautiful, well equipped space with plenty of room to spread out. Your spot includes a shared room.

We understand that unexpected events happen. Contact us as soon as possible and we will work with you on a case-by-case basis regarding refunds or other options. That said, this is a team effort. We ask that you genuinely commit to all aspects of this program before registering.

Four group coaching sessions spread across 2027, starting after the trip. They exist so the decision you make in the desert carries through the rest of your year. This is the difference between a good weekend and a changed one.

Fly into Palm Springs (PSP). It is the closest airport to the house and where the group meets on day one.

Cold mornings, mild days. Highs around 65°F, lows in the low 40s. Sunrise near 6:30 AM, sunset around 5:30 PM. We will layer up for the trailhead and shed them by mid-morning.
